Strip of Bobbin Lace with Mirrored S-Volutes Between Which Hangs a Flower Branch

Strip of natural-colored Brussels bobbin lace. The repeating pattern consists of obliquely placed and mirrored S-volutes, between which a flower branch hangs down. The openwork volutes are alternately wide and narrow and there are four variations in flower branches. The pattern along the lower side consists of garlands of flowers with pointed leaves and some feather-shaped leaves. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground - a drochel ground - and under the wide volutes with a coarser hexagonal mesh ground. The openwork is largely made in linen stitch with cutouts and openwork edges and partly in net stitch. Most motifs are provided with bobbin-edged relief contours. Several decorative grounds have been applied, including picoted plait grounds, a snowflake ground and a decorative ground with a diamond pattern. The upper side is finished with a separately bobbin-edged band.
