About this work

Ice sledge from Hindeloopen with painting and carving. The painted side walls depict Pan embracing the reed and Mercury playing the lyre to put Argus, the watcher of Io, to sleep. On the back, a depiction of Diana and her nymphs; a dance in a 17th-century winter landscape after Hendrik Goltzius.
