Round Parrot Cage, Made of Tinplate, Copper Wire, and Ebony; Construction Consists of a Wide Iron Ring Band, Above Which Are Three Narrower Bands

Round parrot cage, made of tinned iron (tinplate), copper wire, and ebony; construction consists of a broad iron ring band, above which three narrower bands, soldered on six stiles, resting on six turned ebony feet and ending on top in copper knobs; the bottom consists of a solid ebony plate, decorated on the underside with concentric turned rings and a hanging knob in the center; the copper bars are inserted into the base plate, passing through holes in copper rings behind the bands to the turned ebony knob, from which the cage hangs. In the side wall a small door with openwork decoration, inside the cage a tin feeder and a copper ring at the top for the bird to hang from. The cage is a detailed miniature representation of cages depicted by painters such as Jan Steen, Gerrit Dou, and Pieter de Hoogh. The cage hangs in the display kitchen on a (non-original) cord, which allows it to be raised and lowered via a pulley in the ceiling (original) and is secured to a hook next to the door.
