Chest of drawers made of walnut and oak; resting on four ball feet

Chest of drawers made of walnut and oak, resting on four ball feet; the cabinet has a smooth top with a profiled edge, side walls with a recessed center field and two outward-opening doors turning on hinges with a lock; inside a shelf with a hole for the lock, above and below a total of four drawers, made of mahogany and inlaid on the front with four round ornaments of ebony and palm wood, between which silver fittings with a ring. The construction of the drawers is strange; the front, bottom and back are made of a continuous piece of wood into which the two side panels are glued (compare the same drawer construction in cross-foot cabinet BK-NM-1010-1). The drawers may have been added slightly later; no account was taken of the hole for the lock (hence the slot under the second drawer from the top). The drawers are indeed in the 18th century .......: "a walnut table with doors and drawers covered with a tablecloth" in the nursery.
