About this work
Sewing cushion, base form made of a rectangular box of pasteboard with a hinged lid and compartments with individual closures. The outside is covered with green silk damask, decorated with a thin green braid, finished at the gathered corners with a tassel; a paper heart serves as a 'lock plate'. The lid and inner compartments are covered with pink satin, decorated with silver galloon, and strips of green/pink satin and blue-pink braids. The lids of two compartments are covered with cream-colored satin and blue-checkered silk. A small mirror (of mica or glass?) is set into the large lid.
