About this work
David Wolff often worked from prints while making his political portraits. This portrait is based on a print by Jacob Houbraken (1698–1780), which was published in Jan Wagenaar's Vaderlandsche Historie. This chronicle of the history of the Netherlands appeared in the mid-18th century and was an instant hit.
