Hardware of a missal binding

Ten metal fittings for a missal binding, made of brass. The ten parts are cut from copper plate, chased, engraved and punched. On each of them a copper knob with seven facets is riveted. They are provided with holes at the corners or along the edge to drive in nails, with which they were fastened to the bookbinding. Four corner pieces have a turned-back edge on two sides. The other four have this only at the top or bottom (these were placed against the spine of the book). Two sides of each corner piece are edged with an open border of cross-flowers. The field in the middle is occupied by three stylized vines. The ornament on the middle pieces consists at the corners of a plant with three leaves and two flowers in a pot. The four parts in between are occupied by fantastic creatures.
