About this work

Fire screen of brown painted walnut with a sliding panel, decorated on the front with a silk-woven tapestry (tapisserie de Nimes), depicting a rooster and a hen, framed by Louis XIV floral ornament with an inner design of interlacing. The back is lined with red floral silk. Around the pierced frame worked volute scrolls with shell and leaf ornament and filling lattice work. The screen rests on two decorated bracket feet, ending in volutes.
