About this work
Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating and continuous pattern consists of a series of a trapezoidal cartouche, elongated leaves and a four-leaf clover. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, the Mechelen ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch, with thicker and shiny contour threads. Two different decorative grounds, with coarse meshes, are applied in the cartouches and in a space between the leaves. The very light scalloped underside is finished with picots. The top is finished straight.
