Engageante of needle lace with an asymmetrical flower branch in a symmetrical frame

Engageante of natural-colored needle lace: Argentan lace. The pattern consists of an asymmetrical flower branch within a symmetrical frame. Below the flower branch, two long branches form a V. On either side of the frame stands an oval medallion with a flower in the center. Except for one larger flower in the central branch, the other motifs consist of thin branches with picots, bearing small leaves, flowers, bunches of berries, and 'strings' of openwork and picoted circles. The motifs are constructed from festoon stitches and feature relief contours. The motifs are connected by a ground of meshes densely overcast with festoon stitches, an Argentan ground. Decorative grounds and stitches are applied in various leaves, circles, and the petals of the central flower. Along the edges, linked elongated fields are filled with a finer mesh ground, bounded by leafy branches, heart-shaped leaves, and circles.
