Strip of Bobbin Lace with Three Long Lobes under Hanging Fans

Strip of black bobbin lace: Le Puy lace. The repeating pattern consists of linked hanging fans. The space above the points where the fans meet is filled by a diamond. Hanging below each fan are three semi-oval lobes, the two outer ones shared with the preceding or following fan. At the top of the strip, the motifs are connected by a coarse ground. In the lobes directly below the fans, a ground is applied, decorated with small motifs made in needle lace. The top of the strip is finished straight. The shell edge along the bottom of the strip derives from the semi-oval lobes and is finished with picots.
