The Virgin and Child with St Anne

Anna, seated frontally on a bench, leans slightly to the left towards the smaller Mary, who sits next to her in profile on a cushion on a folding chair. She holds in the left hand a bunch of grapes up (for the missing child) and has an open book on the knees, on which Mary has laid her left hand. Anna, with veil and child cloth, wears a garment with sleeves and over the shoulders a mantle, which falls down at her left side, is draped to the right over the lap and is gathered at the left knee, whereby a part of the garment and a blunt shoe point become free; Mary a garment with sleeves and square neck opening; underneath the shirt is visible, furthermore a wide mantle, which hangs down over the arms to the ground and of which the upper edge has fallen back. On the head a crown. The hair disappears under the mantle. The legs of the folding chair end in a leaf motif, the bench has inscribed panels.
