About this work

Cast iron plate, part of the fireplace surround. The opening is framed with an egg-and-dart molding. The pilasters are decorated with a cup in a square frame at the bottom, above which are ribs and a leaf motif, above which on both sides a male bust lifting something heavy. In between, Vulcan is seated with hammer and thunderbolts, as a crown.
