Brisé fan of ivory, carved in relief with flowers and vines, and provided with three oval medallions, on the central one 'Sacred to Love'. 30. Connected ribs carved and worked in relief on one side with flowers and vines. In contrast to other examples from this period, this fan has no monogram in the central medallion but a motto. From this (the language) one may conclude that the fan was intended for the English market and was most likely shipped to Europe by the English trading company. A flower and leaf motif has been applied over the entire fan, which is only alternated with lacework along the edge near the openings for the ribbon. This decoration is enlivened by butterflies, small birds, peacocks and hummingbird-like birds.
