About this work

On a small plot of ground five men stand before a facade wall, which at the top turns into a gallery of three arcades, upon which a roof (?). From the gallery four men look down on them, of whom only the upper body is visible. Below stand from left to right: a soldier, who takes a man looking back at him, walking away, by the arm and leads him forward, then a second soldier, who holds a man looking at him by the right arm. The latter stands opposite a figure dressed in pontifical vestments who has placed his left hand against the left arm of the man, who holds a scroll (?) in his hand. They are all dressed in late-Renaissance costumes: the soldiers wear helmet and trunk hose, the second figure from the left a tall hat, the one on the far right a priestly robe and a tiara-like headgear.
