About this work

Linen darning patch embroidered with silk in cross-stitch, satin stitch, flat stitch and double star stitch. Characteristic for this type of darning patch are the geometric octagons, the decorated letters, the 'ground' with representations from earthly life, and the wide hem around. At the far right bottom stands a man with a large pipe, presumably a beekeeper. 'Letter darning patch' in Frisian.
