About this work

Sculpture in pink terracotta: a young woman holding a half-naked, screaming child in her arms and a dog at her feet. On a round pedestal. In the rim of the pedestal the inscription: "APRES LA GUERRE 1870=1871, J.B. CARPEAUX" and two small oval stamps, one with an eagle and text: PROPRIETE CARPEAUX. The other stamp reads: ATELIER DEPOT 77 RUE BOILEAU AUTEUIL. Condition: broken and poorly restored; part of the woman's right lower leg and the foot are missing.
