About this work
Satirical print on English Quakers, ca. 1656. Meeting of English men and women in Quaker costume in a barn, listening to a sermon by a woman standing on an overturned barrel. In a cabinet at the top, cats are meowing; on the right, a dog is urinating against a woman's skirt. On uncut prints, a verse mocking the Quakers in Dutch and English appears below the image. Subject heading within the Atlas Amsterdam: Church affairs: Friends' Community (Quakers).
