Satirical print on the Schouwburg dispute, ca. 1685

Satirical print on the mismanagement of Joan Pluimer and Govert Bidloo, who were regents from 1679 to 1681 and lessees of the Amsterdam Schouwburg from 1681 to 1687. In the center stands Pluimer with a feather on his head, a goblet of drink in his hand, and a lyre under his arm. Before him a servant with a pie in the shape of a deer. To his right an old man raising a stick towards him. To the left in the foreground a sorrowful personification of the Amsterdam Schouwburg holding a beehive, to her left the muse Melpomene. To the right in the foreground a deceased man (possibly the co-lessee Pieter de la Croix, who died in 1687) is being stripped of his shroud by a man with a cap on his head and a money chest under his arm (likely Bidloo). The public with donkey ears walks through the dilapidated arch towards the theater but is driven away by Apollo.
