About this work

Athaliah, having heard that her son King Ahaziah had died, orders all the king's children to be killed so that she may become queen. On the stairs, soldiers kill the children. On the left, Ahaziah's son Joash is rescued by his aunt. On the stairs a reference to the Biblical text in 2 Kings 11:1. At the bottom of the margin a verse in Latin about the depiction. This print is part of an album.
