About this work

Athaliah, having heard that her son King Ahaziah had died, orders all the royal children to be killed so that she can become queen. On the stairs, soldiers kill the children. On the left, Ahaziah's son Joash is rescued by his aunt. On the stairs is a reference to the biblical text in 2 Kings 11. At the bottom of the margin is a verse in Latin about the scene. This print is part of an album.
