Council Medal of the City of Haarlem 1740

Silver medal. Obverse: Haarlem's city maiden seated to the left against an altar, with the coat of arms and motto of Haarlem, upon which a book inscribed SC rests; in her lap a basket of vroedschap medals, from which she holds one up, with legend and HARLEM in the field. Reverse: Haarlem as seated Minerva with a Medusa shield and a laurel staff with a ship, her foot on an urn inscribed SPARE; in the background to the left besieged city walls and to the right a printing press with a cornucopia from which printing letters flow into a type case, with legend and field text.
