About this work
In Jerusalem, Simon drove out the occupiers from the citadel. He purified the citadel. In the background right, idols are being removed and smashed. The Israelites made a triumphant entry, waving palm branches, singing hymns, and making music (horns, lyre, tambourine, panpipes). Below the depiction six verses in Latin. Bottom right a reference to 1 Maccabees 13. Bottom left numbered: 15.
