About this work

Peasant trickery or trompe-l'oeil consisting of fifteen sheets with as background a wallpaper of red squares and green leaves. In the middle the print 'Wrath and Despair lead Amor towards the grave of Gerard de Lairesse'. Bottom left the print 'View of the city walls of Cologne' by Wenceslaus Hollar. Around it title pages, sea views, and landscapes. Subject categories within the Atlas of Manners and Customs: Fine Arts, Deceivers.
