About this work

Man dressed in a rhingrave (wide 'skirt-breeches'), decorated with loops and ribbons on the sides. Innocent with a large ruff, over which a shoulder mantle. On the long curly hair a hat with a flat globe. In his left hand a glove. Shoes with wide bows. In the background people boarding a boat. Numbered in the bottom right: 5. Subject categories within the Atlas Zeden en Gewoonten: Customs and Manners in a Narrower Sense, Clothing, Costumes (periods), Louis XIV (1650 – 1720). The Allongé period.
