New Year's greeting from the Amsterdam night watch (ratelwacht) for the year 1871. Centrally a poem, at the top a view of the Institute for the Blind (Stadhouderskade 84) and to the left of it the Henriëttehofje (Stadhouderskade 85). On both sides of the poem images of a standing blind man and woman in a niche. The text of the poem refers to the Franco-Prussian War.
