About this work
New Year's greeting from the Amsterdam night watch (ratelwacht) for the year 1871. Central poem; at the top, a view of the Institute for the Blind (Stadhouderskade 84) and to its left the Henriëttehofje (Stadhouderskade 85). On either side of the poem, images of a standing blind man and woman in a niche. The text of the poem refers to the Franco-Prussian War.
