About this work

Attack on Kattenburg, Amsterdam, by the Patriots. On the right lies the district of Kattenburg, behind the bridge the Oosterkerk. The inhabitants of Kattenburg, mostly shipbuilders, were supporters of Stadtholder Willem V. When the Patriots came to power in 1787, they sent the civic guard to Kattenburg. On 30 May 1787, a fight broke out at the Kattenburg Bridge between the two parties, during which the Orangists raised the bridge.
