View of the two Blokhuizen in the Amstel outside Amsterdam, built to defend the city after the failed attack by Willem II on Amsterdam on 30 July 1650. Completed in 1651, they were demolished again in July 1654. Two hameien to the left and right of the Blokhuizen. Various boats on the water. In one boat stands a small tree, and on another the mast is being lowered. Figures swim from a raft or jetty, and one figure relieves himself in the foreground right. Between the two Blokhuizen in the background, the outlines of the city with the mill De Joffer and the Zuiderkerk.
