About this work

Consoling the prisoners. A man and a woman visit a prison where a prisoner is being beaten; other prisoners are chained or behind bars. The visitors give alms. Christ stands among the prisoners, giving his blessing. Part of a series of seven drawings after the paintings with depictions of the Seven Works of Mercy in the Rijksmuseum collection.
