About this work

Before the peasant court of Puiterveen, the crying Fobert and his father stand on the left, and the pregnant Swaantje stands between Jonker Jan and her parents on the right. Swaantje is pregnant by the son of the lord of Puijterveen, but Fobert is accused of this act. Fobert's corrupt lawyer is pleading, while the opposing lawyer listens. Behind the table sit the sheriff and aldermen. Scene from the third act of the play Beslikte Swaantje, en Drooge Fobert; or de boere rechtbank, by Abraham Alewijn. State before letter.
