Crow's Head from VOC Ship 'The White Lion'

Kraaikop from the VOC ship 'Witte Leeuw', 95% present: part of the wall is missing. The bowl is reconstructed from sherds. The sherd is glassy white with little embedded dirt. The glaze is grey-tinted and peeling over parts of the rim. The base is glazed and the footring turns inward. No kiln sand was found. High bowl with an upstanding, slightly scalloped rim, decorated in underglaze blue. The inner and outer walls are divided into broad and narrow panels, filled with flower branches and stippling (inside) and with flowering plants, insects, and bows (outside). In the center, a bird on a rock.
