About this work

Fragment of a plate from the VOC ship 'Witte Leeuw', 75% present. Large plate with a flat rim, slightly scalloped edge, and unglazed base; decorated in underglaze blue. The footring is V-shaped and unfaceted. In the center, a bird by the water, surrounded by flowering plants. Around the scene, a bracket-shaped band filled with geometric patterns. On the wall and rim, alternating wide and narrow fields filled with symbols of luck, flower branches, and ribbons.
