Inside the Behouden Huys, 1596-1597

The men during the polar night in the Behouden Huys. An openwork image of the house, with a mountainous landscape and a starry sky outside. Several men in the back of the house in their cages, on the left a man in a steam bath made from a large water vat, most men around the fire. Above the fire hangs a cauldron and a fox is being roasted. One of the men is sick and lies wrapped in blankets by the fire. On the left in the back, a crew member points to the clock hanging there. On the right outside the door stands one crew member with a halberd. Opposite page 73 in: 'Warhafftige Relation.
