Flintlock pistol

Part of a pair. The lock is engraved with flowering branches and a bird; the lockplate tapers to a point and bears an inscription. The barrel is fitted with a ring and a breech ring; stamped at the bottom with MIM and the initials I and R on either side of a rosette under a crown. The palmwood stock is simply carved; the grip tapers to a solid ivory butt knob, carved all around like a flower; the palmwood and ivory are separated by an ebony band; the fore-end has a cap of dark cowhorn; the left side of the grip is branded with a mark in the form of two curved fish above the stamped number 13 on 113-A and 14 on 113-B. The iron furniture consists of a short ramrod tube, a forked trigger guard at the front with a panel, and on 113-A fitted with a round, yellow-copper plate stamped with the number 503; the ramrod has a cowhorn cap, matching that of the fore-end.
