About this work
Part of a pair. The lock, blued on the inside, is decorated with a single vine, a bird on a branch, and a signature on the lockplate. On the barrel are the letters GMA inlaid in gold. The solid ivory stock is carved in relief and ends after a band of ebony inlaid with ivory in a butt knob carved all around in the form of the bearded head of Hercules with the head of the Nemean lion as a helmet. The iron furniture includes, among other things, an ivory ramrod whose tip is separated by an ebony band, similar to the one between the grip and the butt knob.
