About this work

The hilt is decorated with herms, riders, foliage, and masks; the grip is wrapped with twisted iron wire and has braided grip rings on both sides; the quillon has the form of herms lying on their backs with long wigs in high relief; the pommel is partially openwork carved in relief with riders on rearing horses between two city gates or churches and in each corner a man with a long wig; the blade has a hollow-rhomboid cross-section.
