About this work
The goddess Rome, seated on a seat of weapons on a pedestal, in her left hand a statuette of the goddess of Victory. At the pedestal stand a woman with an ox (Europe), a woman with a lion (Asia) and a woman with a crocodile (Africa). In the foreground lies the river god of the Tiber and the she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus. Below the representation two couplets of eight lines in Latin. Copy after engraving by Hendrick Goltzius from 1586.
