About this work
View of Table Mountain, Cape Town, and Lion's Head, from the sea in 1787. On the left is Table Mountain, on the right Lion's Head. Between the two mountains the Kloof Nek is visible with a number of winding paths. Below is the Groote Kerk (Reformed) and the white buildings of Cape Town. Far left is the Castle of Good Hope depicted. In front lies a ship without masts, likely a wreck serving as a sea beacon or repair station. Next to it is a Dutch ship, and on the right an American or French ship.
