About this work
Rattan cane or walking stick with decorated knob, eye, neck, and point. On the neck a silver band with inscription "To / Jan Corneliszoon Meppel / Lieutenant Admiral / of Holland and West Friesland / 1659". On the knob an engraved portrait depicting Lieutenant-Admiral Jan Corneliszoon Meppel (1609-1669) and along the side the text "Gift of the State". The brass point is decorated with geometric motifs.
