About this work

Flag of France, on the red cloth Saint John the Evangelist with a chalice with a snake in his left hand, a halo around his head, and an eagle at his feet holding a book in its right claw. On the red cloth, further fleur-de-lis scattered in a regular pattern. Flag on flagstaff and mast foot. Depicted on folio 11v. Part of a flag book with flags from Europe, North Africa, the Near and Far East. As the only one in the flag book, this flag has a different reverse side (NG-2018-301-9).
