About this work

Porcelain cup, with portraits of Wellington and Wilhelmina, wife of King William I, in grisaille. The portraits are placed in a crowned oval medallion, below which, for Wellington, a court, and for Wilhelmina, among other things, laurel leaves, all in gold. On either side of the crown, a piece of laurel wreath and, hanging from knobs, branches with 'Wellington Koning: Grootbrit: veldmaarschalk' and 'F:L Wilhelmina souvereine Vorstin van Nederland', all in gold. The rim, foot, handle, and interior of the bowl are decorated in gold. European porcelain.
