About this work
Porcelain plate, painted on the glaze in blue, red, green, yellow, brown, black, and gold. In the center a portrait of William IV (Willem Karel Hendrik Friso, 1711-1751). Around the portrait a band with stylized leaves and a draped curtain. On the wall, a blooming plant at the base of a pillar, a hammer, and two cartouches with 'VOC' and 'WCC'. The rim with lacework and stylized flower scrolls interrupted by three lobed cartouches and a ribbon with the inscription 'Dit 's Frisô's evenbeeld, Dat oog' en harten Streeld.' The plate is mounted in a nineteenth-century copper frame. Decorated in Europe by J. van der Elst.
