About this work
This is the stone on which William III first stepped when he landed in the fishing village of Brixham in England on 15 November 1688. He invaded England to overthrow his Catholic father-in-law, King James II, and to prevent him – together with the French king Louis XIV – from turning against the Netherlands. Known as the Glorious Revolution, William's coup was a great success.
