Model of an Ironclad Monitor
From the collection of Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Free to download, adapt and use — no permission needed.
Painted and rigged block model of a monitor, the base plank is missing. The model has a vertical stem that protrudes above the deck, a sharp cruiser railing, rudder with rounded blade, steering wheel on the campanje deck, two four-bladed propellers. On the main deck stand two triangular deckhouses at the rear and two very narrow ones at the front, allowing a maximum field of fire for the two guns in the rotating turret and connected by gangways; the railing can be lowered on the deck for firing. The chimney is on the first deckhouse just behind the turret, a part of the railing there has cage fortification. The model has four boats in davits. The sheer is completely flat, the hull is a flat-bottom. The rig is reduced to two pole masts.
