Model of a Wind-Driven Pump
From the collection of Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Free to download, adapt and use — no permission needed.
Model of a pump driven by windmill sails, in frames with two storeys, almost identical to NG-MC-648-2. The lower storey is a tank in which the pump cylinder stands, which has a discharge pipe at the upper storey. The pump buckets are simple metal valves, as are the pump plungers which are connected to a crank via a pump rod; in one model, the top of the pump cylinder is closed with a wooden plug, which ensures the vertical movement of the pump rod. The crankshaft is driven by four windmill sails; the crankshaft and sails are mounted on a wooden cylinder with a metal ring, so that the whole can be turned in the direction of the wind.
