Model of an Optical Telegraph

Model of an optical telegraph on a baseboard, incomplete. It consists of a supported mast with a short gallows at the top. Between two of the four braces, rungs are attached to climb the mast. With tackle through pulleys in the braces of the gallows, two wooden wings halfway up the mast are moved; two other signals now missing, probably balls, are hoisted up and down with tackle over pulleys in the gallows. The wings are mounted on a metal ring that can freely rotate around the mast: by means of a rod, the ring with wings can be turned so that they come to stand in a different communication line. Traces of a missing part, possibly the flagstaff, can be seen at the top of the gallows. Scale 1:45 (scale on model).
