Pivot and Two Compass Cards

Compass pin with ruby point on a wooden stand, with rose. The rose has a brass cap in the middle with a hole for the pin at the bottom: turning the rose was improved by the materials used, while the swaying was reduced by increasing the friction surface of the ruby. The rose, which is heavily damaged, can be turned within an outer rim, on which a scale in degrees per quadrant is applied; this was to compensate for magnetic variation (the angle between true north and magnetic north).
