Flower Vase

Compass pen with ruby point on a wooden stand, with rose. The rose has a brass cap in the center with a hole for the pen underneath: turning the rose was improved by the materials used, while the rocking was reduced by increasing the friction surface of the ruby. The rose, which is heavily damaged, can be turned within an outer rim, on which a scale in degrees per quadrant is applied; this was to compensate for magnetic variation (the angle between true north and magnetic north). The second rose is of the same type, but the cap is fitted with a gemstone, presumably agate.
