About this work

Flintlock pistol with battery lock. On the butt cap of walnut, a carved monster head, acanthus leaf ornament, and geometric motifs; on the lock plate, leafy vines with monster heads between them. Smooth, round barrel, surrounded at the muzzle and at the front and back of the lock plate by profile bands. On the breech of the barrel, a mark is stamped. Flintlock mechanism, battery lock with round shapes. The lock plate bears the signature: FORMEZ A MASTRICHT. The neck of the stock, behind the breech of the barrel, is forged with a monster head and vines. Fittings: Silver: the side plate in the form of two lying volutes, connected by a shell-shaped ornament; ramrod holders with profiled edges and facets; thumb plate in the form of a grotesque mask; trigger guard with masks and acanthus leaves.
